Grade 3

What is the root of the Russian word «садовник»?

Answer: сад

How to reason: Compare the related Russian words «сад», «садовый», «садовник». The shared meaningful root is сад.

Grade 7

Find the adverbial participle in «Прочитав записку, Вера улыбнулась».

Answer: Прочитав

How to reason: Vera smiled after reading the note. «Прочитав» names an additional action by the same person and answers «что сделав?» (having done what?).

Grade 10

Which punctuation mark follows «кажется» in «Кажется скоро начнётся снег»?

Answer: A comma

How to reason: Here «кажется» expresses the speaker’s uncertainty as an introductory word: «Кажется, скоро начнётся снег». It is followed by a comma.
